News Discover the Magic of Linero Winery in Colli di Luni Olivier Watson January 8, 2025 3 min 0 Explore Linero Winery in Colli di Luni, where passion meets exceptional wines and stunning views. Discover unique varietals and their stories!Introduction to Linero Winery Nestled in the breathtaking hills of Colli di Luni, Azienda Agricola Linero is a testament to the passion and dedication of its founders, Catia Cesare and Andrea Valsega. Established in 2004, this winery not only embodies a rich legacy but also pays homage to the historic vineyard of General Tognoni, a World War I hero. With a commitment to quality and sustainability, Linero aims to create wines that showcase the unique terroir of Liguria. The scenic landscape surrounding the winery is as captivating as its wines. Just below the majestic Castelnuovo Magra, visitors are treated to sweeping views that stretch all the way to the sea. The refurbished farmhouse offers a welcoming space for wine enthusiasts to indulge in tastings while soaking up the spectacular sunsets over the hills. The Winemaking Journey Catia and Andrea’s journey into winemaking began with their purchase of the General’s vineyard, known for its amphitheater layout and experimentation with various grape varieties like Vermentino, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Ciliegiolo, and Barbera. This ambitious project not only revives a historic site but also brings forward new innovations under their stewardship. With Alessandro Filippi joining as the new winemaker for the 2025 harvest, Linero is poised for exciting developments. The winery has always practiced organic farming without chemical inputs, aligning with current trends toward sustainability in viticulture. Their meticulous attention to detail ensures that every bottle reflects both tradition and innovation. Spotlight on Signature Wines Colli di Luni Doc Pianoro 2023 One standout wine from Linero is the Colli di Luni Doc Pianoro 2023, made entirely from Vermentino grapes harvested from vineyards planted in 2004. This wine presents an intense straw yellow color with vibrant citrus aromas complemented by hints of lemon peel, sage, marjoram, and hawthorn. On tasting, it’s refreshing with a pleasant finish that leaves a savory note on the palate. Vermentino Superiore Del Generale 2023 Another notable offering is the Colli di Luni Vermentino Superiore Del Generale 2023. This blend consists of 90% Vermentino along with small percentages of Malvasia and Trebbiano. With its brilliant golden-yellow hue, this wine boasts an expansive bouquet featuring notes of acacia flowers, grapefruit, pineapple, rosemary, and flint—creating a complex aromatic profile that translates beautifully into a palate bursting with freshness. Unique Tasting Experiences During my visit to Linero Winery, I had the pleasure of tasting two fascinating versions of Igt Liguria di Levante Linero 20.Zero—both showcasing Vermentino’s versatility through different aging processes. One bottle had been opened for over ten days yet retained remarkable integrity; it revealed scents of broom flowers and exotic fruits while maintaining balance between freshness and salinity. The Vision Ahead Looking towards spring 2025, Podere Linero will be fully operational for wine tourism activities. Plans are underway for artistic initiatives that will further enhance visitor experiences at this enchanting venue surrounded by lush woodland and characterized by historic landmarks like Castelnuovo Magra’s tower featured on their labels. Catia and Andrea’s commitment to preserving their unique environment is commendable; their amphitheater vineyard benefits from southwest exposure combined with protective breezes against fungal diseases—ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes. As they forge ahead with dedication towards organic certification along with innovative winemaking practices, it becomes clear that Linero Winery stands as a beacon for quality wines born from both heritage and forward-thinking principles.
