Food Origin Italia Launches 2024-2027 Strategic Plan with First Board Megan Gordon November 4, 2024 12 The Strategic Vision for Italian Geographical Indications In the coming years, Italy’s DOP and IGP systems will undergo significant changes. The newly formed Origin Italia Association aims to enhance the global presence of Italian Geographical Indications (GIs). This ambitious plan, covering the period from 2024 to 2027, emphasizes unity among stakeholders. The association represents 81 consortia, covering over 95% of Italian GIs. It is crucial to act collectively at national, European, and international levels. By doing so, the association can effectively combat counterfeiting and address tariff threats. Moreover, the association seeks to strengthen its role in implementing the new Regulation 1143/2024. This regulation will impact labeling and the Nutriscore system. The goal is to ensure that GIs are prominently featured in bilateral agreements, enhancing their visibility and protection. Strengthening Collaboration and Education The Italian DOP and IGP sectors face numerous challenges. One major concern is the proliferation of local brands that may confuse consumers. Therefore, a comprehensive approach is necessary to monitor the promotion of DOP and IGP products. Additionally, the association emphasizes the importance of collaboration with institutions. This partnership will help implement Regulation 1143/2024 effectively. Furthermore, the focus will be on enhancing specific training within the sector. Sustainability is another key area of focus. The FAO project aims to adopt a shared model for Italian GIs by 2030. This initiative will ensure that the sector remains competitive and environmentally responsible. Leadership and Strategic Committees The recent council meeting reaffirmed the leadership of Cesare Baldrighi. He will continue as president of Origin Italia, supported by vice presidents from prominent consortia. This leadership is vital for navigating the complexities of the DOP and IGP landscape. The council also appointed new members to the Strategic Committee for 2024-2026. These members represent various sectors, including cheese, meat, and oils. Their diverse expertise will enhance the association’s effectiveness in addressing industry challenges. Moreover, the establishment of internal committees will streamline operations. These committees will focus on legal matters, oils, and meat products. The inclusion of new consortia further strengthens the association’s reach and influence. media: WineMag – ® Riproduzione riservata source: WineMag – Origin Italia dà il via al piano strategico 2024-2027 con il primo Consiglio direttivo Certification 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail Megan Gordon Megan, a globetrotter with a passion for wine and journalism, has traveled across the world, exploring vineyards and uncovering stories that connect people to their heritage.
